MYSTERY JAM MONDAY PART 153

Here at Phish.net headquarters, we're always looking out for the general well-being of our fellow Phish fans. Rather than venturing outside into this summer's merciless heat and rain, why not stay indoors and take a crack at solving the one-hundred and fifty-third running of Mystery Jam Monday? Just be the first person to identify the song and date of the mystery jam clip and win one MP3 download courtesy of our friends at LivePhish.com / Nugs.Net. Each person gets one guess per day, with the second “day” starting after I post the hint. A hint will be posted on Tuesday if necessary, with the answer to follow on Wednesday.

Answer: @ucpete is the winner of this week's MP3 download, as he was not fooled by the Tweezeresque section of the 6/24/97 Wolfman's Brother. Once again, the contestants impress.

Keep on the lookout for MJM #154 next Monday.

andrewrose Sounds like a Tweezer to me! I'm in the car en route to Toronto. Tethering. Not sure I'll have to time to hit this though. Here's hoping for a big Tweezer tonight!

It better not be this one. I was listening to it before my intern came in with a half hour's worth of questions...

WayIFeel I've been rifling through '99 and I got nothing. Gotta get back to work. But I'll throw a guess out there.
2.23.97 Good Times Bad Times even though Mikes bass sounds like '99 to me.

BigDudeInTheDoorway Sounds almost like a Tweeprise. Did they used to typeII this back in like 95-97?
, comment by uctweezer
uctweezer I'm not sure this is a Tweezer or even a bona fide Tweezer (or Tweezer Reprise) tease, despite it screaming Tweezer (it's a trap! by @bl002e). Trey's tone does scream '97 to me though...

MeatChaps Damn! I got home and listened to my guess..... I was thinking the "Tweevern" from Hartford 2000.. The Moby Dick-esque riff at the end got me.... Unfortunately for me Fishman was Moby Dick.. Foggy memory! Nice job @ucpete
, comment by Erik8298
Erik8298 Tweezer's of early 2000's. I wish I could hear more of the end and see what they were transitioning into.

Ez_and_not_so_Fast Wolfman's Brother. @uctweezer got it, well played.

That was a tricky one!!! Totally a tweezer teaser. Good One!

Interestingly enough, they didn't play a single Tweezer in the Summer European Tour in 1997. The 37 show gap between Winter European Tour and the Gorge later in 1997 is the longest gap for Tweezer since it was first played...
, comment by UbiquitousSmokey
UbiquitousSmokey Ahh! Definitely thought it was Europe 97 due to recording quality (along with todays first out of the states show of 3.0).

Never would have guessed wolfmans, i checked all the tweezers....

mcgrupp81 First MJM I missed listening to straight away in awhile and it's right up my alley. I was listening to summer 97 while going to/from upstate NY. Imagine the lucky SOBs that got to do that tour. See Europe and listen to fantastic Phish.

, comment by SkyTrainWand
SkyTrainWand I had a feeling it was a Wolfman's!! It's not in the right key for a Mike's or a Tweezer. Wolfman's Brother is typically in Bb or G minor.

I was also listening to that particular show like 2 days ago. Can't believe I missed this MJ. good job guys!

duggy Nice. Happy to see this jam getting some attention ... I had the fortunate pleasure of hitting the shows on this tour from 6/16-7/2 -- and it was WILD! There were only a few hundred folks at this gig, I think ... pretty small place. This Wolfman's remains one of my favourites. I know the 3/1/97 performance captured on Slip, Stitch & Pass busted that tune open, and the London Wolfman's on 6/16 stays in that same funk territory (as does the Ireland performance, but I didn't catch that one). This 6/24 Wolfman's showed us how the band could push out of the Brother's funk and create some beautiful spontaneous compositions ... and I think it showed the band just how much more of a beast this tune could be ... the Reba that followed this is HOT! Love a 2nd set Reba! I'd love to see the band release this Euro '97 summer tour ... it was like seeing the band for the first time again with that huge batch of new tunes they bombarded us with night after night ... great times ...
