The Mockingbird Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by Phish fans in 1996 to generate charitable proceeds from the Phish community.
And since we're entirely volunteer – with no office, salaries, or paid staff – administrative costs are less than 2% of revenues! So far, we've distributed over $2 million to support music education for children – hundreds of grants in all 50 states, with more on the way.

The next afternoon we got into Winston-Salem a bit early and popped into a restaurant for some pre-show grub. The waitress recommended Ziggy's as a hopping place to be after the Phish show let out. Fast Forward a few hours to the YEM encore at Lawrence Joel when this female comes out to partake in the Vocal jam. Me and my two buddies look at each other quizzically as if to say "did we see her last night?". Sure enough Trey introduces her as Heloise Williams of Viperhouse just before the band exits the stage and advises Viperhouse will be playing at Ziggy's just around the corner from Lawrence Joel.
About 20 minutes later we're at Ziggy's watching Viperhouse play a pretty fun 1st set. They take their break and leave us to an empty stage. Me and my buddy leave our friend right in front of the stage for a new drink and possibly a bar stool to have a seat at as we're both pretty tired at this point. About 10 minutes later our buddy comes over to the bar and says something to the effect of "hey , you guys are gonna wanna get back down stage side now". We ask why, and he won't commit to an answer , but just implores us with more vigor not to ask questions but to follow him. We grab a round and head down. He points to the side of the stage where we can see a couch Trey is sitting on and noodling around with a guitar.
Moments later he's playing with Viperhouse for their entire second set. And thanks to my buddy we got great spots right in front of where Trey would be playing for the next hour just in time, because about 30 seconds after they walked out on stage the place was packed from wall to wall.
A very memorable night!!
