Jam Chart for the state of UT (34 entries)

Date Song City Timing Notes
1993-08-21 Stash Salt Lake City, UT 14:58 Extremely improvisational, with multiple movements. Perhaps lacking the melodic grandeur of 8/15/93, it is nonetheless stunning, fly-by-the-seat-of-the-pants exploration.
1993-08-21 Runaway Jim Salt Lake City, UT 10:36 Very improvisational, dissonant and chaotic version.
1993-08-21 Possum Salt Lake City, UT 10:04 Still August '93, so "Possum" is still exploratory as far as "Possums" go. The jam starts off a little odd, then comes back to a more "normal" mode. Has a cool slow down section plus Mike singing falsetto/extra low. (*skip in tape, timing inexact).
1993-08-21 Fee Salt Lake City, UT 6:55 With Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, who add some extra flavor to this outro. > to "Llama."
1993-08-21 Llama Salt Lake City, UT 4:42 > from a terrific "Fee," and featuring Bela Fleck on electric banjo, Victor Wooten on bass, and Roy "Future Man" Wooten on drumitar, here's one of the coolest versions you've "ever heard." While sticking close to "Llama" proper, the musicians gel wonderfully, offering up a wonderful passage of chill improvisation, which offsets traditional fire play.
1993-08-21 Bowie Salt Lake City, UT 12:34 Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. "Bowie" -> "MLB" Jam -> "Bowie." Very improvisational version, really no surprise given the month and year. And the Flecktones are no slouches when it comes to improvisation. Nothing like Victor Wooten and Mike going at it, or Bela and Trey.
1993-08-21 Mind Left Body Jam Salt Lake City, UT 1:03 -> in from "DB." Phish and Bela Fleck and the Flecktones team up for a little "Mind Left Body" jamming. -> back to "DB."
1993-08-21 Bowie Salt Lake City, UT 1:32 -> in from "MLB" Jam. Returns to "Bowie" to conclude this dynamic, exploratory version with Phish and Bela Fleck and the Flecktones teaming up for group improvisation.
1993-08-21 Jam Salt Lake City, UT 2:09 With Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. Fish and Future Man play around with rhythm, then the others join in a low-key jam.
1994-06-09 It's Ice Salt Lake City, UT 9:11 Good rocking jam with excellent Fish and solid Trey (of course Page is great).
1994-06-09 Mike's Salt Lake City, UT 10:43 The 1st jam is rocking and ass kicking, with a clever little "Tweeprise"-like walk up. The 2nd jam is basically a non-vocal version of something very "Simple"-like. Just listen and you'll hear it. The return to "Mike's" has more crazed '94 scream-infused power action.
1995-06-08 Runaway Jim Salt Lake City, UT 9:21 After some "Third Stone From The Sun" (Hendrix) teases from Trey, this one gets out beyond the norm.
1995-06-08 Caspian Salt Lake City, UT 4:28 Debut includes a short instrumental bridge. The ending jam section and closing chords were added in 1996.
1995-06-08 Tweezer Salt Lake City, UT 22:40 Another wacky "type II" version that is worth hearing if you're an aficionado of Phish improv.
1996-08-02 Possum Park City, UT 11:21 Good melodic variation by Trey, some great tension building, and a nice peak make for a good "Possum."
1997-11-14 Gumbo West Valley City, UT 11:04 Quickly breaks down into a Mike-led "cow funk" jam, that eventually dissipates into quiet ambiance and delay loops. Welcome to Fall '97.
1997-11-14 2001 West Valley City, UT 12:26 "FEFY" dissolves into a gorgeous intro. "C&P"-like second jam features one of the coolest Mike basslines of any version.
1997-11-14 Wolfman's West Valley City, UT 14:25 The post-funk release is not your typical "feel good" rocking crescendo, but a quiet transition into minor mode darkness before subtly switching to major mode and -> to "Piper."
1997-11-14 Twist West Valley City, UT 15:58 > in from "Piper." The jam starts off typically, but soon morphs into a swirling and dissonant beast. An extended Trey solo follows this section and > to an epic "Slave To The Traffic Light."
1997-11-14 Slave West Valley City, UT 14:54 Epic, long version that works very well. Impeccably well-played. Here, the journey, rather than the ending, is what really counts (although the ending is pretty spectacular, too).
1998-11-02 Tube West Valley City, UT 14:00 A good mix of funk and ambient elements in the first jam, but the jam reprise is where the band really shows their jamming acumen. Beginning with a darker/ambient feel, Trey gradually increases the intensity and leads the group into some jubilant jamming before the -> to "Drowned".
1998-11-02 Drowned West Valley City, UT 15:39 Shredfest.
1998-11-02 JJLC West Valley City, UT 11:22 -> in from "Drowned." Contrasting with 7/19/98, this version has a genuine blues sentiment to it, enhanced by Page's organ playing.
1998-11-02 LxL West Valley City, UT 15:09 Beautiful, serene playing. At about 8:00, the jam amps down into delicate, contemplative playing.
1998-11-02 YEM West Valley City, UT 22:39 Exceptionally long opening segment (11:30!).
2003-07-15 Weekapaug West Valley City, UT 11:38 Rocks along in the typical manner until about 6:00, then the jam breaks into a rocking and pulsing groove for a few minutes before working back to "Weekapaug" in good fashion.
2003-07-15 Mr. Completely West Valley City, UT 30:09 Phish debut opens Set II. This improvisational version begins with 12 minutes of varied "Type I" jamming before breaking into several quality grooves, including upbeat swinging and near euphoria. After settling, the jam launches into a series of mini segues beginning with "Low Rider."
2003-07-15 Low Rider West Valley City, UT 3:32 -> in from "Mr. Completely." After 30 minutes of jamming to the Phish debut of "Mr. Completely," the jam now swerves unexpectedly into a series of mini segues.
2003-07-15 BBFCFM West Valley City, UT 1:54 -> in from "Low Rider" as the segue-fest out of "Mr. Completely" starts to take shape. -> to "Buried Alive."
2003-07-15 Buried Alive West Valley City, UT 1:14 -> in from "BBFCFM. A swift rendition of "Buried Alive" appears before > back to "BBFCFM."
2003-07-15 BBFCFM West Valley City, UT 0:54 -> in from "Buried Alive" for more crazy "BBFCFM" action. > to "Ha Ha Ha."
2003-07-15 Ha Ha Ha West Valley City, UT 0:26 > in from "BBFCFM." "Ha Ha Ha" is briefly visited among several mini segues out of a huge "Mr. Completely."
2003-07-15 BBFCFM West Valley City, UT 0:39 > in from "Ha Ha Ha" for one more crazed bite of "BBFCFM." > back to "Mr. Completely."
2003-07-15 Mr. Completely West Valley City, UT 5:18 > in from "BBFCFM" to return home and complete this epic jam and segue-fest.
