The Mockingbird Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by Phish fans in 1996 to generate charitable proceeds from the Phish community.
And since we're entirely volunteer – with no office, salaries, or paid staff – administrative costs are less than 2% of revenues! So far, we've distributed over $2 million to support music education for children – hundreds of grants in all 50 states, with more on the way.
I remember where I was when I first heard that Foam. In my car, at a red light, the version of the show I was listening to truncates the song just as The Phish are about to return to the main theme. I went completely bonkers! I still feel cheated to this day. That, my friends, is "hall of fame" jamming! Again, the Bowie from later in the set is super-swell, as well.
Another thing to note about these songs: they both are played IN THE FIRST SET! This is before the days of "they really go to town in the second set". These things used to occur more frequently before that Halloween show I referred to above. Haters gonna do something...
